Communication both ways, between commissioners and constituents, is sadly lacking in Torrance County. Without communication there can be no transparency and without transparency there can be no accountability. Too often we’ve witnessed commissioners paying more attention to their phones during the “Public Comments” period of commission meetings than to what their constituents are saying. When was the last time that your commissioner held a “Town Hall” to tell constituents what’s happening within the county and to hear their concerns? Your U.S. Representative does it. Most state-level legislators do it. Why not county commissioners?

If elected, I will push for a requirement that each commissioner hosts a public “listening” event at least every calendar quarter, and I will personally pledge to hold such an event at least once a month. Elected officials can’t fix what’s broken if they aren’t listening to their constituents!
